Lt. Colonel Shrikant Prasad Purohit was forced to wrongfully spend the last nine years in jail for his alleged role in the 2008 Malegaon blast case.Both the Malegaon blast and Samjhauta Express bombings occurred during the UPA regime. The UPA government hatched one of the biggest conspiracies in Indian politics and clubbed all these attacks on right-wing groups without a shred of evidence. In these 9 years, no charges were filed against him.None of the investigative agencies found compelling evidence and reports were often contradictory. The UPA govt threw Lt. Col. Purohit under the bus to cover up for their incompetence. Instead of upholding the jurisprudence of "no innocent should be punished", the UPA government used Lt. Col. Purohit as a scapegoat. In addition, by coining slogans like "Hindu terrorism" and "Saffron terrorism", the UPA government gave the incident a communal tinge and exploited this series of unfortunate moments as a political opportunity.
