you will miss trekking for sure, if you are a movie lover(indian movies perspective) forget about every week move in places like halifax, calgary.

Don't have the luxury of enjoying your wheels through out the year.

can't afford a beautiful home.

Live in east coast during winter and see how far you can take the winter snow and how do you feel  about your daily activities or weekend activities before moving to canada..

What do you miss about US, what do you not miss about the US?

If you live in Toronto and burbs, you will not miss India..IT jobs are not plenty, but not hard to find

You can fly to any place in North-East,east,midwest and south of USA from Toronto in under 1.5 hrs average (Toronto to Orlando is 1.5 hrs flight time) and Toronto to Buffalo is 1 hr by Road and Detroit is 2.5 hrs by road

Weather in Toronto is same as any other north/north east/Midwest city in US (NY,DC,BOSTON,DETRROIT,CHICAGO etc)

What you miss about US:

The cost of living is high

Taxes are too much (45% tax for income of $100k and goes higher )

You will miss authentic Hyderabadi Biryani and Andhra food

Not all Telugu films are released (only the high budget films)

You will miss Most American stores (Macys,JCP ,Kohls, bloomingdales etc)

13% sales tax on almost everything

High Insurance rates

CAD to USD Conversion sucks

Housing is too high ( 10-15 yrs old 3 bedroom Town home ,40 miles from downtown will be around $600k

Not easy to switch Jobs (unless if you can find one)

Pros:

Peace of mind (No visa tensions or terror related worries)

Free Health Insurance (Covers almost all, except prescription medicines)

Can get Citizenship with in 3 yrs and as Canadian Citizen, can come back to USA and works on TN visa (which is issued at any US border when you show offer letter and supporting docs)

Vibrant Indian community .From barber to plumber ..Indian medicines to safety pins everything is available

Canada is a welfare state,if you have no income or earn less than $20k per year,it is heaven.Govt will feed you (subsidized housing,$1000k to $1500 per month child care befit per child |$200 to $300 GST credit per month | $50 to $100  per month toward electricity bill subsidy per month | Free prescription coverage |  tons of other benefits...Now, the Govt has started a pilot program in few cities to identify those with less than $20k income and pay them another $20k per year in their bank account,to uplift them from poverty)

But if you want to earn and save, USA is the best

$100k pay in USA is equal to $250k pay in Canada

USA>CANADA>EUROPE>AUS/EAST ASIA>INDIA

What you miss about US:

The cost of living is high - Yes need to mentally prepare for this

Taxes are too much (45% tax for income of $100k and goes higher ) - Same as above

You will miss authentic Hyderabadi Biryani and Andhra food - That's okay I can make food quite well, so will probably make it myself

Not all Telugu films are released (only the high budget films) - Don't watch them much anyway

You will miss Most American stores (Macys,JCP ,Kohls, bloomingdales etc) - Thinking how about flying to a state like New Hampshire once every year or so and buy all the clothes needed for an year. PS: I haven't shopped for any clothes in the last one year.

13% sales tax on almost everything - Unavoidable I guess

High Insurance rates - Unavoidable

CAD to USD Conversion sucks - True

Housing is too high ( 10-15 yrs old 3 bedroom Town home ,40 miles from downtown will be around $600k - damn that sucks the most

Not easy to switch Jobs (unless if you can find one) - Hmmm
