An anonymous phone call at Chitora village’s police station mentioned the presence of an explosive in the school premises. Based on the tip off, the police rushed to the scene.

Teachers from the school were informed once the police located the bomb and were asked to shut the school early.

With a quick presence of mind, Ashish decided to risk his life to save the 400 lives on campus. He courageously picked the bomb and sprinted for nearly a kilometer.

Speaking to the Times of India, Abhishek said, “Had the bomb exploded it would have caused damage in a 500-meter area. I was afraid that the bomb may explode so I took it away from the populated area”.

This wasn’t the first time Abhishek has displayed such courage. He explained how he once did the same thing with a similar bomb spotted elsewhere.

IG Sagar Saxena said the police are investigating who the culprit behind the bomb is.

He praised constable Abhishek Patel and said he would be rewarded for displaying exemplary courage. “Patel and his entire unit, who rushed to save children, deserve our applause,” he tweeted.

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, has announced a reward of Rs 50,000 for Abhishek.
