Car starting problem - UPDATE: Fixed

I have a MB C300 2010 model which just got out of warranty and has around 107k miles on it right now. Yesterday after coming out of the gym, the car wouldn't start no matter how much I tried. The battery is in fairly good condition and the dead battery theory can be ruled out as I am able to play the radio, the lights and locks work inside the car. I still tried to jump start the battery but the car still wouldn't start.

Any Merc owners here who have faced this issue? Looks like it's a faulty steering lock issue, after doing some research on MB forums. The sensor that does the start seems to be dead. Have seen a video regarding this as well:

The repair costs for this at the dealership are apparently around $2000 which is not what I want to spend on this car right now, as I am planning to sell it anyway.

Even at the non dealer mechanics, it's not less than $1000-$1200 as per the forums. Just wanted to find out if anyone of you had faced this issue and been able to fix it yourselves, in which case please let me know.
