Hyderabad Man Lay Dead In Flat For A Month, Family Was Abroad

The decomposed body of a 75-year-old man was found in a flat in Hyderabad, over a month after he is suspected to have died after he stepped on a lizard and fell, suffering fatal head injuries, police said on Friday.

The death of Lakshminarayana Murthy came to light only after his wife and two daughters returned from the US two days ago. The shocking incident took place at Sai Maruti Residency in Rocktown area.

The man, who lived alone in a top floor flat, is suspected to have died on August 18 after the fall. Since all the doors and windows were closed, other residents in the building did not get any foul smell.

A dead lizard was found near his feet, indicating he skid after stepping on it.

Mr Murthy was not answering phone calls from his wife and two daughters in the US. As he had kept his mobile phone on charging, they simply assumed he was unhappy with them.
But when there was no response even after a month, they decided to return to Hyderabad and check on him.

పిల్లలు అమెరికాలో స్థిరపడ్డారు. తండ్రికి మాత్రం దేశంపై అభిమానం.. ఇక్కడికి వచ్చెయ్యండి నాన్నా అని కుమార్తెలు విమానం టిక్కెట్లు పంపినా ఒప్పుకోలేదు. సొంతూరిపై మమకారంతో ఈ నేలను వదిలి వెళ్లడానికి ఆయనకు మనస్కరించలేదు. భార్యను అమెరికా పంపించి, తను ఒక్కడే ఇక్కడ ఉంటున్నారు. నెలరోజులుగా ఆయన ఆచూకీ లేకపోవడంతో వెతుక్కుంటూ వచ్చిన భార్య, కుమార్తెలు ఫ్లాట్‌లో నిర్జీవంగా పడి ఉన్న ఆయనను చూసి బోరుమన్నారు. ఒకరోజు, రెండ్రోజులు కాదు.. ఏకంగా నెలరోజులుగా ఆయన అలాగే పడి ఉండడం విషాదకరం. హైదరాబాద్‌లో ఈ ఉదంతం వెలుగుచూసింది. రాజమహేంద్రవరానికి చెందిన డబ్బయ్యేళ్ల వృద్ధుడైన మూర్తి ప్రభుత్వ ఉద్యోగిగా పనిచేసి రిటైరయ్యారు. ఆయనకు భార్య, ఇద్దరు కుమార్తెలు ఉన్నారు. వారు అమెరికాలో స్థిరపడ్డారు. తల్లిదండ్రుల కోసం నెలనెలా డబ్బు పంపేవారు. ‘మీరిద్దరూ ఒంటరిగా అక్కడ ఎందుకు ఉండడం.. అమెరికా వచ్చేయండి..’ అని పట్టుబట్టిన వారు ఆరునెలల కిందట విమానం టికెట్లు కూడా పంపించారు. కాని దేశంకాని దేశానికి వెళ్లడం ఇష్టంలేని మూర్తి కుమార్తెల దగ్గర కొంతకాలం గడిపి రమ్మని చెప్పి భార్యను మాత్రం పంపించి తాను ఇక్కడే ఉండిపోయారు.

అప్పుడప్పుడు హైదరాబాద్‌కు రాక 
మూర్తి కుమార్తె ఒకరికి ఎల్బీనగర్‌ వద్ద రాక్‌టౌన్‌లోని సాయిమారుతీ రెసిడెన్సీలో ఓ ఖాళీ ఫ్లాట్‌ ఉంది. మూర్తి ఎప్పుడైనా నగరానికి వచ్చినప్పుడు అందులో ఉండేవారు. ఆగస్టు 18న బంధువుల ఇంట్లో శుభకార్యానికని హైదరాబాద్‌ వచ్చారు. ఆ తర్వాతి నుంచి ఆయన ఆచూకీ లభించలేదు. దీంతో భార్య, కుమార్తెలు మంగళవారం ఉదయం అమెరికా నుంచి హైదరాబాద్‌కు వచ్చారు. ఎల్బీనగర్‌లోని తమ ఫ్లాట్‌కు చేరుకుని తెరిచేందుకు ప్రయత్నించారు. ఎంతకీ తెరుచుకోకపోవడంతో పగలగొట్టించిన వారు ఒక్కసారిగా గది నుంచి దుర్వాసన రావడంతో అవాక్కయ్యారు. హాల్లో కుళ్లిపోయిన స్థితిలో ఉన్న తండ్రి మృతదేహాన్ని చూసి నివ్వెరపోయి బోరుమని విలపించారు.

స్నానం చేసి తల తుడుచుకుంటూ.. 
సమాచారం అందుకున్న పోలీసులు అక్కడకు వచ్చి చేరుకుని ఆ వృద్ధుడి మృతికి కారణాలను అన్వేషించారు. సుమారు నెల క్రితం ఫ్లాట్‌కు వచ్చిన ఆయన స్నానం చేసి, హాల్లోకి వస్తుండగా నేలపై వెళ్తున్న ఓ బల్లిపై పొరపాటున కాలేసి.. ఒక్క ఉదుటున జారి పడ్డారని, తల గోడకు బలంగా తాకడంతో గాయపడి చనిపోయారని పోలీసులు నిర్ధారణకు వచ్చారు. చనిపోయిన బల్లి.. కాలు జారిన ఆనవాళ్లు స్పష్టంగా కనిపించాయి. వైద్య సాయం అందక అపస్మారకస్థితికి చేరుకుని చనిపోయి ఉంటారని భావిస్తున్నారు.

ఎవరికీ ఎందుకు తెలియలేదు? 
సెంట్రల్‌లాక్‌ సిస్టం కావడంతో బయటి నుంచి చూస్తే తలుపు తాళం వేసినట్లుగానే ఉండేది. లోపల ఓవ్యక్తి ఉన్నట్లు ఎవరికీ తెలియలేదు. ఆ ఫ్లాటు చివరి అంతస్తులో ఉండడం.. కిటికీలన్నీ మూసి ఉండటంతో చుట్టుపక్కలవారికి దుర్వాసన సోకలేదు. 4నెలల క్రితమే పాత వాచ్‌మన్‌ మానేయడంతో కొత్త వ్యక్తి వచ్చాడు. అతడికి ఈ ఫ్లాటు ఎవరిదనే విషయం కాని, అందులో ఎవరైనా ఉంటున్నారా అనే విషయం తెలియకపోవడంతో దానిపై దృష్టి పెట్టలేదు.

పిల్లలకు అనుమానం రాలేదా? 
ఫ్లాట్‌కు వచ్చి స్నానానికి వెళ్లేముందు ఆయన తన ఫోన్‌ ఛార్జింగ్‌కు పెట్టారు. అప్పటి నుంచి అది అలాగే ఉంది. అమెరికా నుంచి కుటుంబసభ్యులు ఫోన్‌ చేస్తుంటే మోగేది కాని లేపడంలేదు. పెద్దాయన అప్పుడప్పుడూ తమపై అలిగితే ఫోన్‌ చేసినా స్పందించేవారు కాదని.. ఈసారీ అలాంటిదేమైనా జరిగిందేమోనని భార్య, కుమార్తెలు భావించారు.

ఇదీ అపార్ట్‌మెంట్‌ సంస్కృతి! 
నగరమంటే లక్షలాది జనంతో కిటకిటలాడే జనారణ్యం.. కాని సాటిమనిషి చనిపోయి నెలరోజులు గడిచినా ఎవరికీ తెలియని వైనమే విషాదకరం. అయిదో అంతస్తులోని వీరి ఫ్లాట్‌ ఖాళీగానే ఉండేదని, మూర్తి ఎప్పుడో ఓసారి వచ్చేవారని, ఎవరితోనూ పెద్దగా మాట్లాడే వారు కాదని.. అందుకే ఆయన గురించి, వారి కుటుంబం గురించి పెద్దగా వివరాలు తెలియవని అపార్ట్‌మెంట్‌వాసులు చెప్పారు. చివికిపోయిన స్థితిలో ఉన్న ఆయన మృతదేహాన్ని కొండంత విషాదంతో అంత్యక్రియల కోసం స్వస్థలానికి బయలుదేరారు కుటుంబ సభ్యులు.

The flat, owned by one of Mr Murthy's daughters, had a central locking system that does not give scope to guess if someone is inside.
