It's official: PM Narendra Modi to launch Hyd Metro on November 28

HYDERABAD: It is confirmed now. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the first phase of the Hyderabad Metro Rail project on November 28. A message to this effect was conveyed to the Telangana chief minister's office (CMO) on Saturday. A formal letter from the Prime Minister's Office intimating the same will be delivered on Monday , said op sources in the government.

The PMO confirmed the ap pointment after receiving a report from the Union urban development ministry whose team of officials inspected the project in Hyderabad and subsequently gave the green signal for the inauguration by the PM.

"The PMO has given the green signal to the metro rail inauguration by the PM. An official communication to this effect will reach the state government on Monday ," said the sources. On September 6, CM KCR wrote a letter to PM requesting him to launch the Metro Rail service. It was on September 6 that chief minister K Chand rasekhar Rao had written a letter to Prime Minsiter Narendra Modi requesting him to inaugurate the prestigious public transport system project in Hyderabad.He also stated that, costing about `15,000 crore, the mass transport system is one of the biggest public-private partnership project in the country .

Modi will inaugurate a 30 km stretch of the metro rail project extending from Nagole to Miyapur on November 28. While 17 km of this will be from Nagole to Ameerpet on Corridor III, the remaining 13 km will be from Ameerpet to Miyapur on Corridor I. This 30-km metro rail stretch traverses along one of the most congested arterial roads of Hydera bad.

The Hyderabad Metro Rail project that was awarded to L&T is being constructed on a 72-km stretch encompassing three corridors spread across the city .

Metro rail sources said the stretch to be inaugurated by the PM has received safety permissions from the authorities concerned ."The Union urban development ministry team which inspected the route has expressed satisfaction over the completion of the first phase. The trial run results were also submitted to the ministry ," said sources.

The PM has already agreed to inaugurate the Global Entrepreneurship Summit slated to be held in Hyderabad from November 28 to 31.Apart from the PM, about half a dozen Union ministers are to take part in the summit.
