IPL 2018: 5 players from Australia’s Big Bash League who should be on every Indian franchise’s wishlist

We are exactly one month away from the Indian Premier League (IPL) auction. This year the auction will be bigger and better than ever with most players going back to the pool. Each franchise has been allowed to retain a maximum of five players (three by retention and two by the right to match card or vice-versa).

We are exactly one month away from the Indian Premier League (IPL) auction. This year the auction will be bigger and better than ever with most players going back to the pool. Each franchise has been allowed to retain a maximum of five players (three by retention and two by the right to match card or vice-versa). So undoubtedly, the teams will look towards a new crop of players that might not cost them much but turn out to be real match-winners. What else can be a better place to look at than the Big Bash League. The star-studded affair is at its peak right now and here, we look at five players from BBL that should be on every IPL franchise’s wishlist:

1. Jofra Archer

The fast-bowler from Barbados is certainly making a few headlines with his lethal pace. Archer has taken over 50 wickets in only 20 games and has an impressive average of 26. Representing the Hobart Hurricanes in this year’s BBL, Archer has a batting average of 38, which will surely make him a huge asset in any lower-middle order. Plus, he might be available for cheap.

2. Chris Lynn

This man needs no introduction. The Aussie is amongst the top 5 big hitters in cricket at the moment. The Brisbane Heat batsman dismantled a lot of bowling attacks in the last edition of IPL. He has not been in great form this season but the KKR management would be watching the proceedings very closely. Lynn can be a massive buy for any team, if not retained.

3. Marcus Stoinis

Last couple of years have been no less than a dream for Marcus Stoinis. Ever since his near impossible knock against New Zealand that helped Australia win the match by just 1 wicket, Stoinis’ status has grown in world cricket. He has even worked on his medium pacers which makes Stoinis a true asset for any team.

4. Cameron White

An old warrior who has virtually come out of the coffin in last two seasons. The former Australian T20I skipper was almost forgotten by the fans but his latest return to form has brought him back in the race for an IPL contract, if not a place on the national side.

5. Andrew Tye

If there was one fast-bowler who owned 2017, it was Andrew Tye. The lanky Australian pacer picked up three T20 hat-tricks in one calendar year (two in Big Bash and one in IPL). He is the leading wicket-taker in this year’s Big Bash and should get big bucks in the IPL auction.

IPL 2018 | Sunrisers Hyderabad to retain Warner, Dhawan, Bhuvneshwar

As per a report, it is learned that Sunrisers Hyderabad is going to retain David Warner, Shikhar Dhawan, and Bhuvneshwar Kumar ahead of the mega-auction on January 27 and 28. Yuvraj Singh is struggling with the form and was not part of Team India and will be available for the auction.

Preparations for Vivo IPL 2018 are on a roll as teams are gearing up for players retention ahead of mega players auction on 27 and 28 January. 2016 Indian Premier League winning team Sunrisers Hyderabad have decided to retain three players from 2017 squad.

“Dhawan, Bhuvi, and Warner have done a tremendous job for Hyderabad team and these were key players in 2016’s victory. Hence we have decided to retain these three from our 2017 squad,” a close member of the SRH team told to SportsMirchi reporter in Hyderabad.

Sunrisers Hyderabad will be retaining their prime players for 2018 Vivo Indian Premier League. Skipper David Warner will be retained ahead of the auction along with his SRH opening partner Shikhar Dhawan. India’s fast bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar will also be seen playing for Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL-11.

One of the close sources from Hyderabad team management told Sports Mirchi that Warner, Dhawan, and Bhuvneshwar were special parts of team’s success during 2016 and 2017 season. He mentions that we are keen to retain these three players before auction as per IPL retention policy.

When we asked about Yuvraj Singh’s retention, the official didn’t make any exact comment about it but cleared that Yuvi had been struggling with form and fitness for quite long. He wasn’t so impressive in the last IPL edition as well, hence management is not planning to retain Yuvraj for 2018 Indian Premier League.

As per IPL players retention norms, one franchise can retain a maximum of 3 players from their previous squad. Meanwhile, they have a maximum of 2 Right To Match choice option for an opting player on the roster again. Hence a team can have 5 players at most from their previous squad. Teams have to submit their retention players list by 4th January.

Indian Premier League’s 11th edition is all set to kick off on April 4 and 8 teams will be competing in the competition. Chennai and Rajasthan teams are making comeback in the league and it will be a great opportunity for franchises to build their team in the auction in January last week.

Mumbai: The upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is all set to be a promising affair, with the much-awaited IPL auctions set to take place in Bengaluru on January 27 and 28.

The IPL Governing Council recently announced that a team can retain upto five players, either by using the player retention policy or through the newly-introduced Right to Match card.

Before the IPL auctions take place, there will be an IPL player retention event, which will be held in Mumbai on January 4.

With the deadline for the retentions closing in, it has been reported that Star Sports will telecast the event. Earlier, the player retentions used to be done through formal e-mails, which was sent to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) by the IPL teams.

“The idea is to send out a message that that the IPL is not just about money. A lot of effort is put in team-building and we want to start the IPL coverage through retention. The retained players form the core of the teams," a Star official was quoted saying to Pune Mirror.

It was in September last year when Star India bragged the rights for telecasting the cash-rich tournament from 2018-22.

Before Star, it was Sony Pictures Network which had the broadcast rights for the first 10 seasons.

The eleventh edition of the Indian Premier League will see the return of Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals after two years, as they were banned due to the spot-fixing case, which took place in 2013. MS Dhoni is all set to return to the Chennai side as captain for the upcoming season.

IPL 2018: Why Mumbai Indians plan to retain Krunal Pandya and not Jasprit Bumrah or Kieron Pollard

New Delhi: While the last date of submission for the player retention for the Indian Premier League (IPL) is January 4, the franchises are more or less certain about the number of players they want to retain ahead of the new season. Three-time IPL champions Mumbai Indians look all set to retain three players - Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya, Krunal Pandya - ahead of auctions as reported by PTI. While Rohit and Hardik's retention made sense, the franchise's decision to pick Krunal Pandya ahead of Jasprit Bumrah, Keiron Pollard, as its third player surprised many cricketing pundits.

"Skipper Rohit Sharma is an automatic retention having led the team to three IPL titles. Hardik Pandya is one of the big match-winners and the interesting third retention would be Krunal Pandya," a senior BCCI official in the know of things told PTI.

The management, however, explained the logic behind retaining Krunal when they had an option of picking one between Jasprit Bumrah and Kieron Pollard.

"Krunal being an uncapped Indian can be retained for only Rs 3 crore instead of Rs 7 crore for the third capped player. Also, Krunal was an exceptional performer last year," he added.

It is learnt that it is a strategic decision to retain Krunal as this will enable the franchise to buy back Pollard and Bumrah with the 'Right To Match' cards.

"MI has been the biggest advocate of five retentions. These five are their core group of match winners and it will be surprising if they deviate from this strategy," the BCCI official added.

Mumbai Indians defeated Rising Pune Supergiant by one run to retain their third IPL title this year.

Each franchise can retain a maximum of five players ahead of the mega auctions to be held on January 27, 28.

"An IPL Franchise is eligible to secure up to five players by virtue of a combination of Player Retention (Pre Player Auction) and Right to Match (RTM) (During the Player Auction)," BCCI Acting Secretary Amitabh Choudhary earlier said in a statement.
