CricPokChic
NEWLANDS BALL TAMPERING SAGA Smith, Warner banned from IPL 2018 Share Tweet Share Both Warner and Smith have been barred from playing in the IPL this year © IPL The already beleaguered Australian pair of Steven Smith and David Warner, the country's captain and vice-captain until the recent ball-tampering saga unfolded, have been banned from participating in IPL 2018 with immediate effect, BCCI confirmed through a media release, on Wednesday (March 28). The decision was made by the Supreme Court-appointed Committee of Administrators, in consultation with the BCCI Acting President CK Khanna, IPL Chairman Rajeev Shukla and BCCI Acting Hon. Secretary Amitabh Choudhary. While the latest decision leaves a huge vacuum in both the Royals' and Sunrisers' camp, the Indian cricket board has allowed the franchises to bring in replacements for the duo. "The BCCI hopes that the cricketers participating in the IPL hold the highest regard for the Spirit of Cricket and Code of Conduct for Players and Match Officials," the release read further. Both players, captains of their respective franchises, had already stepped downfrom their positions as leaders of the side. Both Smith and Warner were on contracts of 12.5 crore INR - the highest paid Australian players in the tournament. The fall-out from Smith's astounding ball tampering confessions midway through Australia's third Test against South Africa has snowballed rapidly. The barring from the IPL has come on the back of Cricket Australia's decision to ban the duo for one year.

Kool_SRG
Williamson announced Sunrisers captain New Zealand captain Kane Williamson took charge of Sunrisers Hyderabad a day after David Warner was banned from playing IPL 2018 in the wake of the ball-tampering scandal troubling Australian cricket. In accepting the role, Williamson made a point to mention he was "standing in as captain for this season." On Wednesday, Cricket Australia had slapped one-year bans on Warner, and Steven Smith, for their role in using a foreign substance to change the nature of the ball to generate reverse swing. Soon after that news broke, the BCCI announced that both players would not be allowed to take part in the IPL season. Warner and Smith had already relinquished captaincy of Sunrisers and Rajasthan Royals respectively. Although there were other contenders, like the Indian pair of like Shikhar Dhawan and Bhuvnewshar Kumar, Sunrisers on Thursday chose to appoint Williamson as the interim captain. They had originally bought him in 2015 and regained his services at this year's auction for USD 468,000. The franchise's decision to pick Williamson is likely to raise a few eyebrows. In his previous three seasons with the Sunrisers, Williamson played only 15 matches with a modest record: 411 runs at a strike rate of 129.24 with three half centuries. Also, during a T20I tri-series between New Zealand, England and Australia, former fast bowler Simon Doull was concerned over Williamson's role in the shortest format, suggesting he should give up T20Is in an effort to manage his workload better. Williamson responded to those comments on the field - scoring a match-winning 72 off 46 balls - and off the field insisting he wanted to play all forms of cricket. CricPokChic
IPL 2018: Andre Russell Raring To Go For KKR After Training With Usain Bolt's Physio Russell said the two-time champions KKR have quality young players in their ranks. Andre Russell will play for Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL© Twitter Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) all-rounder Andre Russell is raring to go in the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) after training hard with iconic Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt's sports therapist Everald 'Eddie' Edwards, the West Indian said on Thursday. "Eddie used to be Usain Bolt's physio. We all know Bolt is the fastest man in the world, I am the second (laughs) so yeah like to be anywhere close to his fitness, you need guys like Edward around you. He is my personal physio," Russell said after joining the KKR camp, days ahead of IPL-11. The West Indian was ruled out for the remainder of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) earlier this month after pulling his right hamstring during the course of his side, Islamabad United's eight-wicket win that consigned Karachi Kings. "It's been tough to be honest. You want to do things but you can't. You restrict yourself from doing it to be a better player, to be a better athlete and person," Russell said about his lifestyle. "Like a lot of partying, drinking you know all those bad habits. I am not saying I am perfect, but I am working on it and it's been treating me well. I am looking fit," the 29-year-old added. Asked about KKR's squad this season, Russell said the two-time champions have quality young players in their ranks and if all of them step up to the plate, the team can do well. "It's fantastic. We have a lot of young talent. We should do really well. Once everyone steps up the plate, it will be good enough." On new skipper Dinesh Karthik who hit a whirlwind eight-ball 29 against Bangladesh in the recently concluded tri-series in Sri Lanka, Russell said he is looking forward to working with the India stumper. "(I am) excited to work with him. I have played against him. I will be sharing the dressing room with him and taking his instructions. It should be interesting," Russell signed off. Kool_SRG
Injury rules Starc out of fourth Test and IPL A "tibial bone stress fracture in his right leg" has ruled Australia fast bowler Mitchell Starc out of the fourth Test against South Africa, and the IPL, which starts on April 7 in Mumbai. Starc's injury has added to a series of horrible news for Australia after the ball-tampering controversy, which most recently saw Darren Lehmann's announcement to step down as their coach after the ongoing Test in Johannesburg. Starc will fly home after the fourth Test for further assessment. His injury handed a Test debut to Chadd Sayers on Friday, which was the fourth change in the Australia XI with Steven Smith, David Warner Cameron Bancroft having flown back home. Starc's injury has added to Kolkata Knight Riders' worries too, who bought him for nearly USD 1.47 million in January. Knight Riders are already waiting on injury updates for Chris Lynn and Andre Russell, and an update on Sunil Narine, whose action was reported during the PSL earlier this month. Narine will be allowed to bowl in the IPL, but will be under scrutiny by the match officials considering he had been banned from bowling in the league in the past. Knight Riders are confident about Russell and Lynn being available during the first half of the tournament. Starc is the third Australian player to be ruled out of the IPL this week after Smith and Warner were banned from participating in the league by the BCCI. Starc had been troubled by a calf injury before the start of the third Test, and suffered a heel problem that ruled him out of the Boxing Day Test in the Ashes too.
