Don't do PHD for GC, do it if you genuinely have a passion towards the subject as well as having the patience to suck up to your professor.

life depends very much on the professor who is your guide some of my friends who did RA in MS joined their Profs for PHD who they know are very cool and got PHD in 3.5 yrs. Pros is it opens a lot of opportunities in R&D and academia. If you are very talented you will qualify for EB1 A/B but it is very tough. Only one guy i know managed EB1 with a lot of struggle. He was second author of papers since his MS

Naa friend okadu alane hermit laaga ayyi PhD chesadu Purdue University lo, now he's a full grant professor at Oklahoma State University.

PhD tho immediate rewards raavu. 

But patience and determination unte they will reap a lot of rewards in the later part of their career and get acclaimed as well in some cases.

My friend is a chemist, post doc chestunadu US lo since 5yrs, his pay is 54k/annum  chala tough ikada, gc osthe veru vishayam
