The great Indian middle class.

If Indian elite class fcuked India until the 90s, its now the turn of the pretender 'middle' class, who are not really elite, but not also middle class.

They have a disproportionate share of voice in policy in India.

The neoliberal policies enacted since Rao 'liberalized' Indian economy are pro 'middle' class.

in the past 10yrs, since the advent of social media, their power has increased many fold.

except they still haven't been able to get reservation canceled. Other than that, they pretty much dominate the conversation on policy in India.

just listen to Canadian, or some of the scandinavian politics. the actual 'middle' class absolutely dominates it, while keeping focused on basic necessities, and not just identity politics (that also exists, but not to the extent US media pretends it exists).

not to say Canada is a better country (It is going the US corporate way), but its hard to shout through the voice of common man in Canada. Not so in US, India.

Okay. I'm a little wrong in blaming just the 'middle' class. its parties like BJP/TDP that promise these politics to them, while having no problems with keeping sections of society underdeveloped.

all other parties are complicit too, but these two parties are the worst in it.

The middle class didn't just reach out and grab the opportunities. The system is designed for them.

I think Canada is like pre 91 India. with entrenched useless elites, who make sure that its almost impossible to break the class barrier beyond a certain level, and so use their power in media to focus on the poorest.
