Sreedharan happy with Hyderabad Metro Rail works

Hyderabad : Dr E Sreedharan, who is considered the father of Metro Rail revolution and Metro Man of India, visited Metro Rail Bhavan in Hyderabad on Thursday and discussed the progress of Hyderabad Metro Rail project with HMRL MD NVS Reddy. 

Feeling nostalgic about how he groomed NVS Reddy as a young officer in Konkan Railway and how initially the Detailed Project Report (DPR) was prepared for only two Metro Rail corridors in Hyderabad, Dr Sreedharan stated that he was very happy that the Hyderabad Metro Rail project is getting ready for inauguration soon.

Explaining the inclusion of the third corridor, the additions made to the original two corridors and how the project was brought to the present shape through sheer determination, perseverance and tactful handling of several sensitive issues, NVS Reddy expressed his gratitude to Dr Sreedharan for his rigorous training and grooming as a young officer in the tough Konkan Railway environment in the late 1980s.

High-end facility to keep an eye on Hyderabad Metro Rail

Hyderabad: A network of surveillance cameras streaming live footage from stations, every movement of the trains blinking on the huge wall screens, two-way communication guiding and assisting the loco pilots, and equipped with high-end equipment is the Hyderabad Metro Rail’s Operation Control Centre (OCC).

As the Metro rails start to chug, the OCC located at Uppal will be a beehive of activity and a nerve centre for operations.

Senior officials of the HMR, describing the sophisticated facility as ‘heart of the entire Metro system’, said when the trains roll out at high speeds, every minute aspect has to be scrutinised carefully. “From the schedules to speed to timings, all aspects have to be meticulously monitored,” one of the officials said.

Not only the trains, an eye has to be kept on even the movement of passengers at all the stations and the state-of-the-art control centre equipped with advanced overview display panels facilitating live feeds is to ensure that.

“Traffic controllers and senior authorities will be engaged in constant monitoring from here and guide the operations,” an official said. The communication facility with the loco pilots enables the controllers guide them where needed and pass on instruction when needed.

The Hyderabad Metro Rail which has three corridors will have a set of display units and separate teams keeping a watch on them. The three corridors are assigned three different colours and the movement of every corridor is tracked as dots blink on the panel of the respective corridor.

The system in the trains is equipped to operate in different modes including standby and reverse mode. Generally, the trains are operated under the Automatic Train Operation (ATO), which is the normal mode of running the trains.

Likewise, the Automatic Train Protection (ATP) mode continuously monitors the safe train operation and initiates necessary action, in case of any snags or emergency.

This apart, movement of passengers at the stations too is tracked, the official said, “if any suspicious movement is observed, officials posted at the respective station will be alerted for necessary action”.
