United American Telugu Convention (UATC 2018) edging towards Failure

United American Telugu Convention (UATC 2018) scheduled to be held in Philadelphia from July 6-8, 2018 has been called off.

They came, they made promises / statements that they will change the Telugu way of living in USA, will bring good value to the public money spent on Conventions, bring unity & pride among Telugu community.

But at the end, all those promises made by three prominent Telugu National organizations ATA (American Telugu Association)NATA (North American Telugu Association) & TATA (Telangana American Telugu Association) seems to have broken due to Regional Feelings, political feelings & personal affiliation. Even the leadership of these organization tried, it seems our origin & our attitude took over.

This was touted as a prestigious event for ATA splinter groups, ATA-NATA-TATA, with an objective to demonstrate their cohesive strength.

Those who do not know the story – Past few years, there have been many conventions done by multiple organizations, each of them failing to attract substantial crowd, losing money instead of raising money for charities. Leaders of these organizations came together to have a united convention after the ATA convention in Chicago in 2016.

Those who want to understand the leadership of these organization, American Telugu Association (ATA) is led by Hanumantha Reddy, North American Telugu Association (NATA) by Prem Sagar Reddy and Telangana American Telugu Association (TATA) by P Malla Reddy. Based on an internal email circulated, NATA leadership had confirmed that “It is now official that there won’t be United convention in Philadelphia 2018. It is only NATA convention”. According to sources, NATA’s leadership attitude did not go down well with the other two organizations ATA (mother of these 3 organization) and TATA (Predominantly Telangana origin supporters). The main reasons for the disagreement ranged over the convention authority, regional feelings and also an organization (NATA) forcing YSRCP agenda.

NATA demand for the control over the event on pro-rated funds raised by each organization was not agreed by the other two organizations. The Idea was to invite Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy as the guest, apart from highlighting YSRCP throughout the convention. This did not go well with Telangana American Telugu Association and ATA. A five-member committee
from these organizations recently convened a meeting and decided that things are not going as per the plan. Later NATA circulated an internal newsletter to organize the event  independently in Philadelphia.

Some efforts are still being made to see if there is a possibility. Rumors are that ATA (American Telugu Association)  is planning to organize convention in Dallas, & TATA elsewhere.
Though not officially declared, looks like we will see total of 4 Telugu conventions in USA in 2018. There is ATA (American Telangana Association) Convention planned in Houston, Texas.
