Apple moved to island of Jersey to avoid taxes

The company currently holds around $252.8 billion outside of the U.S. as companies need to pay 35 percent in taxes when they bring overseas profit back home. Apple will have to find another trick to avoid taxes after 2020.

While Apple’s tax optimization structure doesn’t look illegal, there’s no reason why Apple should pay less in taxes than a smaller company that doesn’t try to route money through different countries to avoid local taxes. Apple is a good example of the ever-changing tax avoidance strategies, and shows once again that tax havens help the biggest companies in the world, which leads to unfair competition.

One more reason for people to hate Apple. Why the fcuk they are trying to avoid taxes? If the biggest organization is not ethical, why would smaller ones!

google also uses similar strategy man.

all big companies use similar strategy. But apple is special case considering the amount of cash it is piling  with the one product that doesn't do any good to society.

Why isn't Apple taking any risks? They need to learn a lot from Amazon.  With the amount of cash it has, it could have done lot more things. It has the worse NLP interface at the moment - Siri compared to Alexa, Google. It doesn't invest in latest advancements such as autonomous cars (apparently, this is secret project), or expand its line of products to AI, cloud etc.,

250 billion dollars in cash just sitting there doing nothing for last 1 year. Just to avoid taxes.

Your statement is as vague as saying all business should involve in unethical practices to become profitable. Sounds fair!

absolutely the hypocrisy is there.

but as a business student, you should work for your shareholders. The structure of property rights itself has to change for all this to change.

sticking to ethics will cause you to suffer huge losses.

both business models are different. Amazon is a cash guzzler.

as far as NLP. None of these companies will make the radical progress. They are all waiting for a breakthrough in NLP which they can buy off. because businesses cant innovate (except at margins). innovation happens mostly in labs and universities, which businesses coopt.

Apple is doing what every typical corporation would do. Amazon too, but since it is in a different business, it seems like they are innovating, but what they do is just invest more in their own business.

google is different. It is trying to innovate, but without much success.

however the corporation is structured, innovation cannot be forced. It happens inorganically and in spurts, in some university lab or a govt lab somewhere.

businesses exist for the sole reason to do repetitive work more efficiently.
