There's an alternative for everything these days. including for android, and even open source mobile phones.

facebook is intrusive, but google is slimy. both are equally bad. I don't use any. I used to use duckduckgo for the past 5years. but now I've stumbled upon yacy, and I think its insanely good if you can get it to work for you.

I know duckduckgo, but yacy aa, new to me. Daily reader of news.ycombinator but never came across this

duckduckgo is yesterday. yacy is bleeding edge. I also use federated apps for instant messaging (matrix network), for social media (mastodon), blogging (my own site). I'm trying to see if I can bridge ride sharing apps into openstreetmaps.

basically, I don't use a single corporate product. including my laptop. and I survive, and thrive.

No. I'm not paranoid. I just hate giving my dollars to executives, and rather give it to people who create and maintain open source programs.

i love taking dollars from those braces_1

ofcourse I think having an android phone is stupid too. especially using its voice assistant.

you guys are giving your data to the corporates to create their AI for free. Their AIs suck anyway. But the more data you throw at it, the better it gets. Even without improving their fundamental algos.

Echo is super man. voice recognition has improved so much... once you get one, u love it.

Bro, mana complete data antha untadhi valla degara... inka amundhi hide cheyataniki.. email, social media, your search strings. your interest .all...

A fight between two of the world’s biggest tech companies, Amazon and Google, just got nastier. It’s unclear who will win in the end, but one thing is clear—consumers will lose.

The bad news comes via Variety, which reports that Google is cutting off Amazon’s access to the popular YouTube app on the Echo Show speaker device and, starting in January, on the Amazon Fire Stick as well.

For millions of consumers, this means Amazon devices that they bought and that once played YouTube will no longer do so, forcing them to buy another streaming device—such as Roku or Google’s Chromecast—if they want to watch the video service.

Google’s decision amounts to the latest in a **-for-tat war as the companies battle for consumers’ attention. In a statement to Variety, a Google spokesperson lashed out at Amazon for, among other things, not selling Google products.

“We’ve been trying to reach agreement with Amazon to give consumers access to each other’s products and services. But Amazon doesn’t carry Google products like Chromecast and Google Home, doesn’t make Prime Video available for Google Cast users, and last month stopped selling some of [Google-owned] Nest’s latest products,” said the spokesperson. “Given this lack of reciprocity, we are no longer supporting YouTube on Echo Show and FireTV. We hope we can reach an agreement to resolve these issues soon.”

ya i might not use my fireTV anymore, youtube kind if sucks man in fire TV, i see alot of buffering issues(and i dont think its the primary youtube app)...the only reason i use that u kodi

i have chromecast, xbox, smart TV.....

i use echo, because lot of products have integration to it, without needing a hub.....google home kind of sucks there
