meeting an old friend isn't always nice.

So I ran into an old friend at the library. we were not really thick friends or anything, just hung around in middle school among a group. I think I liked her the least in the group. Looks like she's among the two in our group who didn't become a capitalist rentier. The other one killed himself.

For some reason I was more excited to run into her, than she was. Quite atypical of me. So we went off on a long walk, and spoke of how our dreams changed, when reality hit. Actually my dreams got even bigger after reality hit.

For a change, I was the more optimistic of the two rattling on about how so and so strategy could work. She trashed all of my optimism as complete nonsense of a wannabe anarchist who couldn't even give up his factory to his workers if push came to shove. She's right. Then she took me to a group home she lives in now, and showed me around to her friends.

But then she spoke disparagingly about the common friend who died of overdose a while back. Her logic that if her friends who all came from dysfunctional families and have disabilities could survive and fight, our common friend could've fought too. I found that logic disgusting.

Now, I don't know if I should be happy that I met her, or sad that she's living the life that I want to, desperately. and rubbing my nose on it.

@uttermost Whats wrong in this logic bro? All she meant was, the person who overdosed should've tried to kick the habit before it reached that stage . She just took the example of dysfunctional families and disabilities to drive the point that ppl who have long suffered emotional trauma were able to overcome it.

not overcoming it doesn't diminish a person.

hmmm.. based on what u told about her..she seems to be nice person living the life the way she wants to.

I agree with her opinion on ur deceased friend. Every one has a tragedy..we cant feel sorry for ourselves

but  i also think no one can understand the pain and suffering that one goes thru...that person could be our close frd or family member but still we cant really get what they are suffering inside.

he was my closest friend. and his struggle changed me from a libertarian (american version) to someone not an asshole. still it wasn't enough for me to convince him to go for rehabilitation regularly.

So it's okay for that person to take their life if needed, and we should just accept it. Instead of trying to influence their decision by mentioning irrelevant examples of others to let them live longer and prolong their suffering. That's what I believe.

Some people need help. Its not that they want to OD and die. Addiction doesn't work that way

Some not all. Plus I know how addiction works, and sometimes even though you may not accept it it's a one way street.
