service virtualization. mock third part responses and test internal services. its faster and reliable. look for tool called wiremock.

lets assume you are making changes to a table.. one 1 column only.. (table has 20 columns)

how do you make sure tht 1 column change only and rest of them did not change?

effective way to check is by regression testing.. 

regression testing is nothing but complete table to table compare or file to file compare by joining on key column..

this helps identify what exactly got fixed

check if any other stuff has changed

check counts and data consistency

"creative" in your case could mean that you need to go beyond your test cases that can improve the end product, this is something that may not be part of your requirements

Functional programming cheyyi... Lot easier less steps..

QA testing antha same code replicate chesthu undali aeppudu... Just make sure create a higher order functions .... Which can be more useful to you... And they can appreciate you....
