FYI, I did engage my uncle just once in trying to understand his position on maalaas, and he lied to me about one his doctors being accused of sexual harassment (I investigated his claim) by mala woman.

then I observed this with all my mamas and atthhas, and even their kids.. couple of them are exceptions.

except my mother, who I can talk frankly with, and doesn't mind me saying offensive stuff, I cannot talk to anyone in my family freely about this.

my in laws are a whole different beast. my wife has ordered me never to broach that topic, even in support of sikhs. She knows conversations can get into uncomfy territory too quickly, because people lie and deflect all the time.
