I don’t think oil price has anything to do...infact, if there is any effect it will have to go down right ? Saudi is the loser and pressure is mounting, Saudi will do what so ever to use its oil diplomacy to pump more oil into the market than to cut supplies and increase the price ...

.if any crisis erupts.. short term will have an effect. World is waiting what Trump action would be. though he stated that he wouldn't want to loose the business, congress has been publicly against this. it appears all except Trump wants to go with Iran some how. if Russia, USA, china sides to Iran, KSA left alone just with puppet neighboring countries. as you mentioned it would have to pump oil again to kill other oil producing economies , but with sanctions who would buy it. I believe the prince will step down to cool down international pressure.

Being the largest producer in the cartel, blocking Saudi oil is good for none...

This would be the last resort...or an option which would never be used.

Today's market is reacting negatively as this whole episode getting to USA/Trump awaited action. Interesting to see how it will end..prince takes responsibility OR rest of world punishes KSA OR something strange will popup...
