CricPokChic
Paddy Upton set to return as Rajasthan Royals head coach Paddy Upton is likely to return to Rajasthan Royals as head coach for a second stint. It is understood that Upton, who had played a similar role at Royals from 2013 to 2015, has been finalised for the head coach position which was left vacant last season. Former Australia legspinner Shane Warne had played the role of a part-time mentor in 2018, when Royals qualified for the knockouts. ESPNcricinfo understands that Warne will continue to be associated with the franchise, but his role is likely to be more of a brand ambassador. Once confirmed, Upton will form Royals' central coaching group along with former Debyshire quick Steffan Jones, who had been appointed the franchise's fast-bowling coach last season, and director of cricket Zubin Bharucha. Former Mumbai players Amol Muzumdar and Sairaj Bahutule have been retained as batting coach and spin-bowling coach respectively. It is understood that Ajinkya Rahane is likely to be retained as Royals' captain and he will be part of a leadership group, comprising former Australia captain Steven Smith and England wicketkeeper-batsman Jos Buttler. Smith had been axed from IPL 2018 in the wake of tremendous outrage over the Newlands ball-tampering incident. Upton, who served as assistant coach to Gary Kirsten at India and South Africa, has worked with various franchises, including Pune Warriors in 2012, when he was appointed head coach of an IPL team for the first time. He then moved to Royals for the next three seasons and assisted Rahul Dravid, who was initially the captain and then mentor of the side. Once Dravid became Delhi Daredevils' mentor, Upton moved too, taking up the head coach role for two seasons from 2016. In both the seasons, Daredevils finished six and as a result the franchise parted ways with Upton after the 2017 IPL.

CricPokChic
IPL 2019: No home-away format? BCCI to shift matches on neutral venues due to General Elections, says report Indian Premier League 2019: The BCCI will reportedly have to forego the home-away format next season in order to have adequate security measures for cricket matches due to clash with General Elections. MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli in IPL | Photo Credit: AP The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the big decision of hosting the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2019 season in the country, ruling out the possibility of a part or full shifting outside despite the clash with the General Elections. With the season scheduled to start from March 23, the security management is going to be a big concern for the board as the Lok Sabha Elections are also expected to be held around the same period. To overcome the issue, BCCI has reportedly decided to give just three home matches to franchises and shuffle rest of the fixtures around neutral venues in order to have adequate security. Although the dates of the General Elections aren't out yet, as per Pune Mirror, the BCCI is expected to announce the formal schedule of the IPL 12 on February 2 or 3 along with a backup plan for a few matches. The management is planning things with the assumptions that the polls will start around the same time (April 7th), as it did the last time. It has also been understood that the franchises had expressed their preference of playing matches at neutral venues – in cases where playing at home isn't possible due to security issues – rather than having the tournament hosted overseas. The BCCI, hence, will come up with a list of 5-6 such neutral venues that can be utilised in such a case, with the home-away format understandably being sacrificed. A senior BCCI official had told DNA about the discussions that were held within the BCCI about shifting the tournament outside the country due to security issues. "It was basically to ensure adequate security for all matches if central government refuses to commit the same like two previous elections,” the official said. "The first objectivity was to keep the IPL in India. As the elections will be held in phases, so it should not be a problem for BCCI to find venues to suit both the teams as well as that particular state govt which has to provide the security," an official revealed. The board is also believed to have revealed it to the franchises of the scenario wherein they will only get to play three home matches and the rest away or on neutral venues. CricPokChic
Will suspended Hardik Pandya, KL Rahul play IPL 2019? KL Rahul and Hardik Pandya were suspended by BCCI on Friday. For now, it is not yet clear whether they will be eligible to play the 12th season of Indian Premier League or not. Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul are not confirmed to play IPL for now. Photo credits Will Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul play the 12th season of Indian Premier League (IPL)? This is the biggest question that is making the air after the suspension of the duo by BCCI. The release of the board clearly mentions that they will not be allowed to play in any tournament authorised by it, ICC or any state association. This also includes IPL and as of now, the participation of the duo in the T20 league remains under cloud. This is due to the fact that a set timeline for the inquiry into the case of Pandya and Rahul has not been set and it remains to be seen how much time will the committee take to deliver a judgement on the two players. It can take a week, two weeks or even a month. After the judgement of the committee, both the players will have to serve the bans or pay fines or whatever the committee decides. Since the IPL starts on March 23, a ban for two months or so can see them miss the full duration of the IPL or a part of the T20 league. Their IPL future solely depends on the committee; the time it will take to announce the decision and the punishment which it will impose on the two cricketers. Pandya was retained by Mumbai Indians ahead of 2018 IPL auction for a huge amount of Rs 11 Crore. He scored 260 runs and scalped 18 wickets in the previous season. KL Rahul was purchased by Kings XI Punjab for a sky-rocketing amount of Rs 11 Crore. He repaid the faith shown on him and shone with the bat, scoring 659 runs in the T20 league. It also saw him make his comeback to the ODI side and he has been with the team since then. If they are ruled out of the league, it will come as a big blow for the franchises of the two players. For now, they are returning back from Australia and will wait for a decision of the committee.
CricPokChic
Paddy Upton appointed Rajasthan Royals head coach Share Tweet Upton has served as Royals' head coach from 2013 - 2015 © Getty Rajasthan Royals brought back Paddy Upton as their head coach for the upcoming Indian Premier League season. CricPokChic
IPL 2019: Rajasthan Royals seek replacement for injured Steven Smith - Report Steven Smith is all set to miss the upcoming season of Indian Premier League and Rajasthan Royals have started looking for a replacement for their former captain. Steven Smith has been ruled out of IPL 2019. Photo credits: BCCI The news of Steven Smith's elbow surgery has now left Rajasthan Royals with a task to ask for a replacement for their former captain. As per a report in The Mumbai Mirror, the franchise is now seeking permission to get his replacement but it will only be allowed to do so once it confirms that Smith will not fly to India. The former Australian captain is all set to undergo surgery for his elbow on Tuesday. He will have to wear a brace for six weeks before starting the rehabilitation, which rules him out the upcoming season of Indian Premier League. In fact, the injury could also delay his comeback into international cricket and Smith will have a race against time to be fit if selected in World Cup 2019 squad Since the franchise will need a replacement for Smith, it has started the process for the same. Last year, the franchise roped in South African wicketkeeper-batsman Heinrich Klaasen but released him for IPL 2019. Smith missed IPL 2018 after being banned by Cricket Australia. The cricket association had allowed him to take part in the league but BCCI did now allow Smith and David Warner to take part in the league. It is confirmed that Smith will not take part in IPL 2019 and will miss the league for the second year in running. He was retained by the franchise ahead of IPL 2018 and in 2019 as well, the Royals did not release him despite him missing the previous season of the league. While Smith will be absent from the tournament, Warner might ply his trade for just a few days as Australia play Pakistan in the month of April, that can delay his comeback to IPL. Even if he plays, Warner, along with other Australian players, will have to leave the league before May 1 to prepare for the World Cup. IPL 2019 will be played in India from March 23. CricPokChic
India-Zimbabwe series in doubt due to IPL 2019 schedule Both the teams, last played a bilateral series in 2016 when India toured Zimbabwe for three ODIs and as many T20Is. Team India. (Photo by Quinn Rooney/Getty Images) Zimbabwe’s proposed tour of India is in danger of getting cancelled owing to the schedule of this year’s Indian Premier League. Just a week ago, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced that the twelfth edition of the league will start on March 23, thus ending the speculations over the league’s starting date. With the World Cup in May, the BCCI had to come up with a date which would allow the players adequate rest before the showpiece event in England. However, the schedule is more than likely to jeopardise Zimbabwe’s tour of India. While the schedule of the series is yet to be announced, the African country was likely to visit the Indian subcontinent at some point in March. India were set to host Zimbabwe for one Test and three ODIs. However, it looks pretty unlikely now due to the cramped schedule. India are currently in Australia for their final leg of a two-month long tour. It ends on January 18 following which the team flies to New Zealand for five ODIs and three T20Is starting from 23rd of this month. The tour will end on February 10. After that, the Men in Blue will welcome Australia for two T20Is and five ODIs. The series will run from 24 February to 13 March. With the IPL due to start on March 23, that leaves only 10 days to squeeze the Zimbabwe series in. Thus for the time being, it looks highly unlikely. Consequently, the series could be restructured, postponed or even cancelled entirely. According to a report in the ESPNcricinfo, Zimbabwe Cricket managing director Givemore Makoni will meet BCCI officials to discuss the various options including the omission of the one-off Test for T20Is and ODIs. A series after a long time: In case, Zimbabwe does visit India, this will be only their second bilateral series in this country in this millennium. Zimbabwe visited India for the World T20 in 2016, the World Cup in 2011 and the Champions Trophy in 2006, but their proposed upcoming trip would have been their first for a bilateral series since 2002. Both the teams, meanwhile, last played a bilateral series in 2016 when India toured Zimbabwe for three ODIs and as many T20Is.
