There is a big question of affordability without government tax breaks.

Prius sales dropped after the tax breaks ran out. Tesla will face the test in few months. They sell only sedans and without breaks there are doubts about demand for ~42 to 45k compact car. 

 

 

Tesla’s prospective customers are people who already own a premium brand or looking for one. bMW 3 series and model 3 will end up in the same ball park also consider state tax credits, fuel and maintenance cost saving etc overtime. If you have solar installed it is straight 90%-100% saving on fuel.
