Updated: November 02 , 2018 07:18 IST Politics is the last refuge of scoundrels, said popular writer George Bernard Shaw. There could be exceptions, but it applies to most of the politicians, who have absolutely no morals and integrity. For politicians like Telugu Desam Party president and Andhra Pradesh, this saying is more aptly applicable. Naidu talks very high about values in politics and breakdown of democracy, but in practice, he hardly follows them. Not just his political opponents, even the most independent political observers say there is no bigger rank opportunist than Naidu. This was once again evident, when Naidu met Rahul in New Delhi in the name of bringing all the anti-Bharatiya Janata Party forces together to build a strong grand alliance. In doing so, Naidu destroyed the very foundation of the Telugu Desam Party which was built on the anti-Congress plank. It was this same Naidu who had till recently been attacking the Congress party for dividing Andhra Pradesh unscientifically, making personal allegations against Congress president Rahul Gandhi and his mother Sonia Gandhi. It was the same Naidu who described the Congress party the most corrupt political outfit that indulged in scams like 2G scam, Commonwealth Games scam and coal scam. It was the same Naidu who spew venom at former Congress chief minister Y S Rajasekhar Reddy and brought about a book called “Raja of Corruption” against him. Now, the same gentleman is shaking hands with the same leaders whom he had hated the most in the past. Shamelessly, the TDP president is trying to defend himself saying joining hands with the Congress party was a “democratic compulsion” in the changed scenario to bring down the BJP government. What Naidu forgot is that the Congress and the BJP have not changed and remained the same, but it was he, who had changed colours like a chameleon. For his political gains, Naidu joined hands with everybody –be it the Congress in the past and now, the BJP twice, the Communists, Pawan Kalyan and even the Telangana Rashtra Samithi. Moral of the story is that people like Naidu don’t need morals to be in politics; they only need political gains!
