Hyderabad: Joining the many technology companies in setting up their operations in the city, mobile maker OnePlus India announced setting up of its research and development (R&D) centre in Hyderabad.

The China-headquartered manufacturer will recruit about 300 people for the centre. The company made an official announcement on Twitter. “We are excited to open a local R&D centre in Hyderabad to work more closely with our Indian community and network of partners. #OnePlus6TLuanch,” said the tweet from the handle @OnePlus_IN.

Responding to this, IT Minister KT Rama Rao tweeted: “Welcome to Hyderabad @OnePlus_IN. Glad you’ve made the right choice of location.” This twitter thread has been trending.

The company chose Hyderabad ahead of Bengaluru due to the persistent efforts of the government here to provide an enabling business atmosphere.

The company had visited Bengaluru and Hyderabad in search of the right location for its R&D centre. Officials from the IT Department had met the officials of OnePlus and explained about the facilities and incentives extended to IT companies here, an official said.

In terms of smartphone sales, OnePlus is in the second place after Samsung. Its recent launch OnePlus 6 has been a success selling more than 10 lakh units in 22 days.
