VIJAYAWADA: Polavaram multi-purpose project on Godavari river, considered the lifeline of the State, was first proposed in 1941 and preliminary investigations were carried out between 1942 and 44. Naidu has pushed the project to its last leg — concrete work of the dam, the main component of the project, is under way.^[33] After 14 years of initiating the project works, the first major mile stone of completing the 1400 meters long diaphragm wall was achieved in June, 2018 which will lead to the project usage for water supply in incremental stages with the further progress of other works.^[34] The project senior officials are confirming that they are confident of supplying water by gravity to the canals from the onset of 2019 monsoon.

YSR did a lot of work during initial days of his first tenure (2004-2006 or so)  and acquired a lot/most of the land for the canals. Many thought this will complete very quickly. 

 

Not sure about the reasons, but works came to a standstill from 2007 or so until 2014 (AP Reorg). Its now going in full speed probably due to funds coming from the centre
