As an employer just answer their question whether the employee is working with you or not. If they arrest and initiate deportation, request your employees to see whether valuntary departure order is an option. Probably students cannot talk immediately over phone. If you have employees from these university alert the seek voluntary departure order if they arrest and intimating the deporatation process. Seek legal help as the process is complicated, and arrest, detention, deportation process have changed lot in the last couple of years.
