Below are pros and cons based on my limited interaction with friends working in various fields. Please share ur opinion. I had another thread asking for best IT field to shift to instead of Civil Engg. But wanted to start a new thread on pros/cons

IT PROS:

  • Work from home on Fridays (Never for other fields)
  • Work from home mostly (Never for other fields)
  • Easy to get a job if laidoff (Other fields really difficult)
  • Opportunities in India or other countries (Other Eng fields have limited opportunities outside US)
  • Higher pay

CONS

  • Stressfull depending on the client and expectations

Nee bonda..... I am a civil engineer. Zero competition. I moved to Canada, got my PR and citizenship and came back. Found a job in every place I wanted to move in less than 3 weeks. I make 160k gross, 120k base. 8 years experience.

Not every civil engineer is a structural engineer. Civil includes transportation, geotechnical, water resources environmental. Maybe structural gets paid better but most other civil jobs pay very less.
