ys, before you criticize why PAF fighter jets couldn't shot down Indian fighter jets, you need to know some facts.
 

1. CAPs (Combat air petrol) were airborne from the last 2 weeks on both sides, these are normally 2 jets in each sector.
2. There is an agreement between Pakistan and India that both sides will remain 10 kms away from the border. Last night they tried to create a distraction by entering in this 10 km area of their border in Lahore and Bahawalpur sector, but when PAF CAPS responded they returned back.
3. A bigger formation, probably 8 (half escorts, half bombers) crossed LOC from Muzaffargarh sector, remember this part of AJK is thinnest on our side. and Jaba is only 9 km from LOC.
4. Our CAP was probably in the south when they entered from the north.
5. As soon as our jets returned and tried to lock them, they dropped their payload and ran back into their own airspace
6. Remember for head-on engagement or implying BVR (beyond visual range missile) you need some time and space (at least 60 km of distance) between the two, and as I said they made themselves light by dropping payload and ran away in double the speed with which the came.)
7. And for rare chase engagement, there should be 2 km of distance between the 2 jets, at no point both forces came this close.
8. Lastly, those who are saying why we didn't shot them down with SAMs (Surface to air missiles) like Kargil, Its answer is in Kargil there was a war going on is a specific area, we had SAM batteries installed there. but in today's instance we never knew from where they will enter, so we can't have SAM batteries all along the LOC/ border

On point 8....I would expect our radars or AWACS to pick up indian air movement much before they enter our airspace.....and communicate the danger to SAM batteries in time....we shot down 3 indian aircrafts in first 2 days of kargil....which forced indians to abandon air attacks during kargil
