I am just supposed to believe you out of thin air when it says something else online? Show me documented evidence as to how you relate surname to caste.

There are a few surnames that cut across castes. However, some surnames belong to certain castes only. Not everyone can be mapped, but most can be.

What you were claiming to be true sounds ridiculous and like a made up story because because of two reasons.

1. You're saying that this random person has memorized all the surnames in the face of the Earth and has stored a database correlating surnames to caste. Why would he do that? Seems like a waste of resources, of all the things he could remember.

2. How can you trust the memory of this person when you fail to show me a documented evidence of the validity of your claims?

There are birth certificates that show your caste. I doubt there is a person who knows all the surnames, but there are pretty obsessed people out there who will know all the surnames in their caste. Trust me it is not hard to remember 1000 words or so in one person’s lifetime. Now comes the real question as to why someone would do such a thing and my guess is that it allows them to stick together- you know twigs and bundles. You can share information and get rich together, have a political say and control other people who are not united. Now I am not saying that it will work perfectly, but it will do a decent job in keeping communities together. Knowledge, behaviors and mannerisms get passed down generations within a caste. I am not saying that there is one person out there who is willfully doing it, but they do it together as a community- basically a community memory. At the end of the day, some castes are aggressive while some are tepid in their approach to keeping it together.

I have my birth certificate with me and it doesn't say anything about caste. I don't know if I would agree with people of the same caste have same mannerisms. I am yet to find an Indian person that shares my likes and mannerisms, will I have a better luck searching in a community? Probably not, so why even bother?
