Frnd can anyone tell how maternity leave works in contract positions in CA

iys regardin my wife,

shohld we inform client that she would take leave ? Not sure if they extend the contract ... by the time she is due .. her contract comes to end ...

The question of vacation and maternity leave is one between your wife and her contracting agency, if she is on W2.  Yes, she can tell the end client about the maternity leave granted by the contracting agency. It is totally up to the end client whether the contract can be extended or not. The moment your wife takes a long vacation, the end client may ask for a replacement or terminate the contract or keep the contract open till the end of that contract, etc. These are all choices the end client can make.  

Basically, your wife is not an employee of the end client. So, the end client is not legally obligated to do anything.

"To be eligible for job-protected leave, employees must:

  • have worked for the employer for at least one year, and
  • have worked at least 1,250 hours in the 12 months prior to the leave."

Usual ga Pregnancy lo job nunchi fire chyeatam or contract end cheyatam cheyaru.

and Pregnancy reason choopinchi they cannot end her contract and US lo adhi legal kadhu (even though she's not FTE of that end client)

But you need to inform the client that when you are planning to take vacation, so that they can plan for replacement.

let client know, its all client call (lot of factors like budget, resource need, project dates, contract agreement with vendor etc.,)  they might let go or be kind and could say she can come back. Its total client call. Good luck!
