The senior Telugu actor and Telugu Desham MLA Nandamuri Balakrishna has on Friday filed his nomination for Hindupur assembly segment. He reached Tehsildar's office with a massive road show in town. Thousands of TDP supporters in yellow caps holding party flags lined the stretch and crowded Balakrisha's vehicle with 'Jai Balayya' slogans. Through out the road show, Balakrishna who stood in the jeep is seen waving to the crowds and party supporters.

Hindupuram assembly segment has been a stronghold for Telugu Desham Party, since NTR got elected from the constituency for the first time in 1985. He continued to emerge victorious from Hindupur in 1989 and 1994 polls. Post that, NTR's son Harikrishna represented it in 1996 and again in 2014, Nandamuri Balakrishna won from this segment.

YSRCP is fielding former IG K. Iqbal Ahmed Khan on Balakrishna for Hindupur assembly. Iqbal, who moved from TDP to YSRCP, is contesting the polls for first time. TDP supporters and fans of Balakrishna are confident about his victory and they are expecting a higher majority than in 2014, given the development activities in assembly segment. Balakrishna, who promised to resolve the three decade old water problem in Hindupur, has got Rs 194 Cr for drinking water scheme and Rs 66 Crore for infrastructure development and town beautification.
