YSR Congress Party chief YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has asserted that the heavy turnout in the elections in Seemandhra indicates a total sweep and the verdict would be decisive and one-sided in favour of YSRCP.

In a statement, he reiterated they would support any party at the Centre that would safe-guard the interests of the state.

When asked who will the party support at the Centre, he said: “It is not Modi, Tom, Dick or Harry. Our concern is only the development of the new state. We do not surrender to Delhi like what Chandrababu Naidu has done but will play a pivotal role in the formation of the government at the Centre and upkeep the Telugu pride.”

Development of the state is high on the agenda as the Congress has divided the state irrationally and the Bill was pushed through with intrigue with Congress, BJP and TDP being party to it.

The Bill is ambiguous and the people of Seemandhra have used their wisdom and voted in big numbers.

“I see a clear sweep from Srikakulam to Kuppam in favour of YSRCP,” he said.

‘Voters turned up in big numbers despite Naidu’s machinations’

Despite the efforts of Chief Minister and TDP national president N. Chandrababu Naidu to reduce the polling percentage, more than 80% of the voters exercised their franchise indicating a “landslide” victory for the YSR Congress Party, said its president Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy.

Addressing the media briefly at Lotus Pond, the party headquarters in Hyderabad, Mr. Jagan said that Mr. Naidu was convinced of his defeat and stooped to a new low, threatening the Election Commission, resorting to various tricks to mislead voters and prevent them from exercising their franchise and keep the polling percentage low.

The TDP also unleashed anarchy and staged dramas to achieve this goal, Mr. Jagan alleged. Reading from a list, he claimed that two party sympathisers —Venkatarappareddy in Pedda Thippasamudram in Chittoor district and Pulla Reddy at Tadipatri in Anantapur — were killed in a clash with TDP activists. He alleged that TDP activists attacked YSRCP members in Vizianagaram, Nellore rural, Gurajala, Narasaraopet, and Puthalapattu (Chittoor).

‘No complaints about EVMs’

In Chilakaluripet, Minister Prathipati Pulla Rao and in Mangalagiri, Minister Lokesh violated the election code, he alleged. On the functioning of EVMs, Mr. Jagan said when 80% of nearly 4 crore voters had no objection to them how anyone could “say anything negative” about them. On the high polling percentage, Mr. Jagan said, “It is a positive sign for us (YSRCP),” and added that it would be a “landslide win” for his party.

Exit polls 2014: Seemandhra may not have good news for BJP-TDP alliance

Politics FP Politics May 13, 2014 07:42:48 IST

In Seemandhra, the neck and neck battle between the BJP-TDP alliance and the YSR Congress could be headed for a tie with both possibly winning the same number of seats in the region. Despite the BJP's last minute pre-poll tie-up with the Telugu Desam Party, it is unlikely to yield a dramatic victory for the party in the region and also close the door on a potential alliance with the YSR Congress in the event that it does better.

According to the IBN-Lokniti CSDS National Election Tracker exit poll survey, the TDP-BJP alliance is set to win between 11 t0 15 seats. The YSR Congress which is strong in the Seemandhra region is also expected to win 11-15 seats.

The Times Now-ORG poll had better news for the BJP-TDP alliance which it says will win 17 seats in the state. The YSR Congress, according to this survey, will win only 8 seats in the region while the Congress as expected is not expected to win a single seat in the region.
