Built in the 12th century, the Notre-Dame cathedral in Paris houses numerous treasures and served as the setting of historical events.

Notre Dame has been the venue of key events in modern history: 
- 1970: Funeral of former French President Charles de Gaulle
- 1974: Funeral of former French President Georges Pompidou
- 2008: Pope Benedict XVI's visit 
- 2013: Cathedral's 850th anniversary
