If the other partner is not already in the US, marrying a GC who lives in US could take years for the nonresident partner to enter US legally and join their partner. No issues if both partners are in the US already. But a H1B holder could marry someone outside US and bring their partner into US immediately. A citizen may bring their partner in a couple of months or even before the wedding.  the worst situation is marriage between a GC and a nonresident.

marrying a GC will get you EAD in a couple of months (if you already live in US) and you can eliminate mestris and work independently or through your own company

there is not much difference between a GC and a citizen if both partners are in US for getting EAD
