My maternal uncle was into this business, lol.  With mantragallu, with some labor, he used to go out and dig for these gupta nidhis. He never had any luck in finding these hidden treasures. He got lucky in other ventures: seeds business, buying agri lands even before Telugu Ganga canal came to Nandyal area. He was such a greedy basturd. He made so much, and he lost everything. He died of AIDS. First his wife committed suicide, then he was doing some cotton business in chilakaluri peta, there he got HIV. Had he been careful, he would have had 300C by now. He was cunning as hell.  He was running binaami contracts for some politician in Nandyal area (anyway, latest news is that this politician lost his money in some Uganda/Indonesia contracts). Eventually, he got cheated, then started his downfall. 

Usually, the people who fund these expeditions for  గుప్త నిధులు are crooked at a deeper level. Yes, you see people cheating in real estate, people not paying what is owed, people disappearing after using you. The funders for these expeditions go one step beyond what we see: greedier, more daring, more importantly, not heeding others' advice.  Nothing against greedy people: every one of us greedy to some extent; otherwise, we would have attained ఙ్నానోదయ by now.
