Every IT Pro should have a tablet (just my opinion). If we don’t, who else should? Most Americans are just country and not cut out for tech. They love food MORE than technology. EEEEW!

Tablets are not expensive these days, they give 10 hours of battery unlike any laptop and they live longer with a great ROI. A $500 tablet used for 5 years costs maybe $100 per year and you get so many returns out of it. Games are dirt cheap compared to console apps and have a great replay value right in your pocket. Apps are a fraction of the cost from their desktop counterparts. A hardware musical instrument costs hundreds or thousands but that’s only one huge instrument. I have more than 12,000 instruments - right in my pocket! And I can design new sounds to create my own instruments. If you take the free GarageBand app from Apple as an example, it comes with dozens of instruments and FX and a few years ago, to own so many hardware instruments meant to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars and store them in a big hall but now, you can have all of them in your pocket for free! Many productivity apps like the ones from Microsoft and Apple are free. There isn’t much we can do on a tiny phone without the tablet experience using tablet apps. My tablet goes with me to the grocery store, mall, movie theater, restaurant, meetings... I finished and posted some of the best song videos from my car and all I use to produce song videos is the tablet, headphones and my finger and nothing else (no hardware instruments, camera, microphone, lights, desktop, etc). I’m a Mac, I don’t use my iPhone much (the reason I upgrade to a new iPhone only once in 5 years) and can live without the phone. I simply LOVE the tablet - it’s like a pocket computer and mobile internet.

iPad mini is PERFECT for kids and women and supports all the same iPad apps natively. When I used mini 1 (still have it bricked and slow), it used to go everywhere I went and got MORE use out of it than any other iPad so far because it is so small and handy but with the same tablet experience using tablet apps. I saw a lady at the airport with her husband and 2 kids pulling out her cellular mini and checking flight schedules. I thought, “Oh, wow! That’s so cool!!  Why don’t more people do this?? Live in technology?” As Apple puts it, iPad mini is a Little Wonder!

If considering buying, always buy the CELLULAR model tablet - it costs an extra $130 (regular) or $150 (Pro) for cellular version and just $10 to add it to your phone’s data plan as an additional device and you can use the tablet from anywhere (like an iPhone) with shared data - always connected to the internet. A WiFi model costs $30 per month to add to the data plan (more than cellular model) and you can see how the extra $130 is broken-even within 6 months and after that it is only savings @ $10 per month as opposed to $30 forever. Most people buy the basic WiFi version, cannot use it much unless under WiFi because it is offline outdoors and always leave it at home without getting much use out of it, tethering/hot-spotting is a hassle with frequent disconnections and rule it out as a waste. You will realize the value of a tablet when you have it in cellular version with a data plan on it and will love it MORE than your phone because it has a bigger screen offering a tablet UX and - always connected to the internet! That’s freedom, if you ask me. You’ll use it more for the fun of experiencing and enjoying cutting-edge technology.

I always buy cellular iPads with corporate discount. If you have an S-Corp, you can write it off as a business equipment expense and depreciate it down to 0% in 5 years @ 20% per year and after that, it is yours to keep or sell it and buy another one on business and repeat depreciation 🙂
