I think you just need the regular iPad Air that meets your needs and also supports Pencil 1:

https://www.apple.com/ipad-air/

I used Air 2 from 2014 until this year with iOS 12 (and can still use it now - no issues at all). I have Procreate and many other drawing apps installed on it and they all still work just fine. I produced end-to-end music projects on it including video editing and can still do it with no issues. And the new Air with Bionic A12 chip is much more powerful than the old Air 2 I have.

I bought the Pro 11” last year to take my music videos to the next level. I use Audio Unit plugins (similar to VSTs) for instruments, FX, etc into my DAW apps and that’s like app-in-app and firing up multiple apps simultaneously. Song projects in a DAW app are multi-track parallel processing and CPU intensive with multiple plugins on those tracks in the song project and Apple has some memory limitations on those plugins - they all share a tiny set amount of memory. With a Pro, I can have more tracks, polyphony and plugins without maxing out on CPU or crackling. That is pro use for a faster device.

But I can still use my Air 2 for music production, video editing, drawing, etc. with no issues.

You can try the regular Air and if you are not satisfied, you could exchange it for a Pro. Or buy both at the same time, try them out and return the one you don’t like before the return period ends.

hence the handle @MobileMusic

Yep, Mobile Music is all about producing music using mobile devices and mobile apps from anywhere on-the-go without using anything else - no hardware instruments, computer, camera, lights, mic, etc. That’s because mobile devices and mobile apps have evolved and come a long way from being meant for just content consumption in the past to being used for content creation now - easier than on the desktops.

The term “Mobile Music” is HUGE and very popular in Europe and elsewhere than it is in the US. Fortunately, I was able to earn and obtain the friendly YouTube URL that is easy to remember for my channel followers 😀

Sure, I have posted some new Telugu songs in high quality already - check out the videos section on my channel (especially Inkem Kaavaale, Peniviti, Choosi Chudangane, MCA, Bharat Ane Nenu, Yentha Sakkagunnave, etc). Some songs also have their SLOW versions posted to learn comfortably. These were all produced (including video) using just the iPad Air 2, headphones and my finger (or Bamboo stylus) and nothing else:

(There haven’t been any good songs in Telugu lately like there were last year.)

also the playlists section - I’m compiling the BEST OF THE BEST playlist now and going publish it soon

Cheers!

iPad mini - the Little Wonder - is powerful enough too and supports Pencil 1 just as iPad Air.

You can zoom in or pinch out the canvas in drawing apps to get into details (even on Pro 12.9", you still have to pinch out most of the time).

When I used iPad mini 1, it got the most use out of it than any other iPad I used and it went with me wherever I went due to its portability but supporting the same iPad apps natively with a tablet experience.
