Jagan pitches for SCS at Niti Aayog meet !

Jagan pitches for SCS at Niti Aayog meet!

Contrary to the talk that YSR Congress party president and newly-elected Andhra Pradesh chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy has conveniently pushed the special category status demand to the backburner, he raised the issue once again with a strong voice at the Niti Aayog governing council meeting held in New Delhi on Saturday.

Presenting his stand at the meeting, Jagan reminded that during the bifurcation of the state, the Parliament had assured the people of Andhra Pradesh that it would be granted Special Category Status for a five-year period and the residuary state would be adequately compensated through a number of development interventions, investments, and direct financial assistance to mitigate the economic hardships.

“I wish to emphasize that grant of Special Category Status is an essential imperative to compensate the State for the economic and financial deprivation and help launch it on the path of development trajectory,” he said.

Jagan told the meeting that the Special Category Status would mean higher grants-in-aid to the State Government.

The per capita grants to the Special Category States is Rs 5,573, whereas Andhra Pradesh received only Rs 3,428.

The states which have special status alone enjoy special industrial incentives such as Income Tax exemption, other concessions and exemptions pertaining to GST, etc.

“Such special incentives are vital for our agrarian state, as it would enable rapid industrialisation leading to improved employment opportunities for the youth and overall development of the State.

“We need super speciality hospitals, five-star hotels, manufacturing industries, high-value service industries such as IT, premier institutions of higher education and research to transform the economic architecture of our State, which is possible only with Special Category Status,” he said.

NITI Aayog Meet: Jagan Accuses Naidu of Corruption

NITI Aayog Meet: Jagan Accuses Naidu of Corruption

A day after AP CM YS Jagan Mohan Reddy met Union Home Minister Amit Shah and requested him to 'soften' PM Modi's 'heart' on Special Category Status to Andhra Pradesh, Jagan has reiterated his demand of Special Category Status to Andhra Pradesh at NITI Aayog meet.

Jagan, who attended the Fifth Governing Council of NITI Aayog at New Delhi attended by Prime Minister Modi and Chief Ministers of other states, said the Special Category Status as an "essential lifeline" for Andhra Pradesh. "It is disheartening when we hear several rumours and excuses for not granting special category status," Jagan said.

On "widely rumoured argument" that few other states may demand SCS if it is granted to Andhra Pradesh, Jagan said, "In the history of this country no other state was bifurcated with a pre-condition that special category status would be accorded to compensate the economic and financial hardships such bifurcation would entail, which was supported by both ruling and opposition parties that had representatives from all the states."

Giving a political turn to NITI Aayog meeting, AP CM Jagan has criticised the previous TDP government led by Chandrababu Naidu for "mis-governance and institutionalising corruption".

"Mis-governance and institutionalised corruption coupled with lack of sincerity during the past five years have left the state with high unemployment amongst youth, lack of investment in infrastructure and industry, a sharp deterioration of public education and health system and empty coffers,' he said.

Jagan may decline dy speaker post offer

Jagan may decline dy speaker post offer

AP chief minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy on Saturday told party MPs that there was no need for an alliance with the BJP, indicating that he is not prepared to accept any posts at the Centre including the Lok Sabha deputy speakership.

The decision is in tune with his pre-election stand that YSRC will support any political party that would give special category status to AP. Since the BJP has not yet responded positively on the SCS issue, he wants to wait.

Jagan was addressing the parliamentary party meeting of YSRCP in Delhi on Saturday.

He, however, said there was no need for the MPs to go into a fighting mode with the BJP-led Central government.

“We will have some good relations with the BJP. There is no rivalry nor friendly relationship with the BJP as of now. Our relationship is healthy,” said party MP from Hindupur Gorantla Madhav.

Jagan's actions show his commitment towards AP!

Its just two weeks since YS Jagan Mohan Reddy took over as the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh.

But within such a short span of time, Jagan with his actions proved that for him the interests of AP matter the most and nothing else.

A quick glance of the functioning of Jagan as CM shows his sincerity and commitment towards AP.

In his first address at the Niti Aayog meeting in Delhi convened by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday, Jagan attracted the attention of all CMs of states, besides PM Modi and union ministers Amit Shah and Rajnath Singh.

Jagan came well prepared to the meeting to present his case effectively before PM and CMs of all states to prove his point how severe injustice was meted out to Andhra Pradesh with the 'hasty bifurcation' of state and how AP deserves 'special category status' more than any other state does.

Jagan not only presented his arguments effectively in the meeting, he brought printed booklets on the current plight of AP due to bifurcation, which were distributed to PM, union ministers, CMs of all states and senior officials of Niti Aayog department.

The Centre, which along has been opposing to grant special category status for the past five years, appeared convinced with Jagan's arguments and assured to look into the issue.

Earlier, the Centre used to rule out holding any debate on SCS to AP in its meetings.

But, Jagan made everyone present in the meeting to introspect themselves and review their opinion on according SCS to AP.

The argument which captured the attention of all was Jagan talking about Hyderabad.

Jagan said after AP lost Hyderabad to Telangana, software went to Telangana and AP is just left with 'saagu' (agriculture cultivation) and questioned them how can AP prosper just with agriculture and without IT and industries.

Despite knowing very well in advance that, BJP and Modi are against granting SCS to any state, Jagan did not shy away from putting forth his argument demanding SCS for AP.

If Jagan had selfish interests, he could have avoided speaking about SCS in front of Modi to please him.

But Jagan did not went back and raised the issues, which normally angers Modi.

This proves beyond doubt that Jagan is more concerned about the interests of AP than his personal or political gains.
