India is not proud of it's religion, but culture. Culture evolves from Religion. Religion is a personal choice, not a nation's choice. The US is not proud of Christianity, whoever said that is purely making an assumption. India is not a Hindu nation, but because of the demographics, India has a rich culture, which it should be proud of.... merely being Hindu doesn't make the cut.

I think India's history will shock most of them, if they actually read it.

india is not a hindu nation at all. just like islam came from outside, vedic religion did too. majority of local customs were either subsumed by this varna system, or were made to.

but even then, India still retained its local pockets of unique culture, until the buddhism blossomed in India, that created an detached kind of culture. brahmins with shankara rejigged their religion and reintroduced it, and still hinduism was not spread all across india.

finally the bhakti movement created all the new gods, mixed with local gods, poopulrized new mythology and made hinduism somewhat more popular. one of the least productive times in the history of India was during this religious period.

but even today most people don't identify as Hindus. its just the govt that simply classifies them as such. India cannot be a Hindu nation. it never was, at any point in its history.

Hinduism == Brahminism. first delink that, and then talk. no need to listen to people who shout from the top of the chain about hinduism.

they have their reason to shout. the people at the bottom should bring them to their level. Not agree with them.

when indian people understand what people at the top have done in the name of hinduism, they will reject that identity itself.

recent Modi victory proves nothing about the poopularity of Hindutva in India.

Cause and consequence. Culture is a consequence of religion and demographics. Be proud of the culture, not necessarily religion.

being proud of anything, without understanding that things change is not good.

for eg. I was irritated when my uncle spoke on length about sunil gavaskar, because i don't give a fcuk about him.

culture constantly changes. and it should be allowed to. politicising it, giving it one specific identity leads to stagnation.

calling people sickulars etc is what dumbfcuks do.

do you know hinduism's history? lol. its literally filled with blood and conquest. Start from Aryan invasion, the racism against dravidians, creation of varna came much later.

it has a disgusting history of imposing its hierarchy on a civilization that was superior to its nomadic one.

first of all, what is hinduism? search for the answer with honesty, before you want to call india as hindu nation.

hinduism is mostly a political construct, not a religious one. to some extent it is a social construct too, but one that has outlived its use.

Of course culture constantly changes. But respecting new traditions is also a part of the culture that we grew with in India..the culture we take forward with us, is who we are. If I lose the values that I grew up to learn, I lose my identity. I am not religious, but I respect my culture. People need to distinguish religion, culture, traditions and values. You can think that they are interelated but not the same.

people who are rabidly hindu, are at a deeper level - casteists. they either enjoy their caste's place at the top of hinduism, or want to get their caste to the top.

Hinduism is just the vehicle to show their sociopathic tendencies.
