Changing license plates after moving to Texas

How strictly is this enforced? It says on the DMV website that we will have upto 30 days to change our tags, I just renewed my tags in a different state so is it necessary for me to do this in TX again. 

Some states don't implement this very strictly, my friend whose license tags are from PA has been here for 2 years and was never bothered to change his plates. TX people please advise.

I did it with in timeframe.. ppl say no one knows when u entered etc

but you have to change your insurance to Texas so if someone really wanted to know they will get to know..

Your insurance might not work ,as there is a difference in premium on your location. 

if they find out your location is higher premium place and you have been paying low , they might deny it 

it happened to me

even for theives at rural gas stations in texas, ppl who have other state license plates are targetted ones
