Please bro. Enlighten us.

Ignorance is bliss. Just enjoy buddy, you have that.

If you wanted to be enlighted, you may try this book to begin with - Never to Have Been by David Benatar. Net lo PDF untadhi. Ilanti forums lo enlightenment ante comedy untadhi. Either you need to experience somethings truly in your life or you need to be bomborded with abundant rationality about the life. That book may help with the later.

bringing kids into this world is somewhat of a moral conundrum on many levels. cheppamantaava?

Its not just conundrum. Its just morally bad considering the current lifestyle of humans which has huge asymmetry between the pain and pleasure.

During my last trip to India....I have asked my mom to stop buying veggies...helped her planting vegetable seeds within our compound wall...now she is saying that she never bought veggies in last 60 days and that includes the hot summer...what started as 7-8 type of veggies...now she is saying there are about 20 types of veggies...all the waste from my home gets decomposed and uses it for same vegetable garden...whennu stop buying things...it reduces plastic usage as well...

even without global climate change, bringing a child into the world requires serious throught and should not be taken lightly. not about your ability to financially provide for the child, but your ability to care for the mental, physical health of the child (that is, how do you raise the child and with what values, and a close look at yourself, if you have any values) .

pre modern people just had kids whenever they felt like, like animals on heat, moderated only by tradition, and now we have the opportunity to make that choice at a personal level. we should use it. one way or the other.

if we stuck to climate discussion, it is going to change the world in a way that you can't even predict. there's going to mass migrations into your country, your state, your city. How do you teach your kid to react to it? To treat migrants like people, and be mocked by the rest of her classmates, or be the one mocking the migrants?

do you understand the kind of mental health issues people who are racist, sexist and indulge in protestations against the helpless, suffer from? If the kid has a conscience, even then the kid is going to suffer from the above. the only kids that are spared are those that focus on their work, and shut off the world around them. Are you sure that you can provide the kid with that kind of environment without basically directing the kids life?

these are the some questions I grappled with, before I adopted 3 kids. I don't have the answers.

-------

I'm not even touching on possible natural catastrophe, food shortages, etc. Lot of people are optimistic that humans will find a way. But humans are absolutely unprepared for what is coming. the 'development' of last 40yrs since reagan, has been so destructive on multiple levels that humans haven't even been able to quantify it yet.

plastic eating worms, or aritificially pollinating bees are good for sci fi novels, but in reality, tech is not even close to making them at a scale that is helpful to prevent conflict and provide for everyone.

I was not. I read that book in the past and I don't care for it.

I liked his analysis but it is too impractical for me.

Interesting, may I ask what made you adopt 3 kids if it isn't personal?

basically, we chanced upon 3 babies in Chennai at slightly different points in time, kept close tabs on them for many years while they grew up in the system, and began the process after my wife's health got better.

how we chanced upon them is a long story. not suitable for this db. Lets just say we got married just so we could adopt those kids. Otherwise, there was no reason to marry.
