The Sony Walkman just turned 40

I still have this Walkman Professional WM-D3 with Dolby NR, level controls, line-in, line-out, etc. works on 2 AA batteries or external power lying in my trunk for years - don’t know what to do with it (bought it at the tail-end of Walkman era and entry of MP3 players)

SONY made some of the coolest stuff that audiophiles would drool over. They had to discontinue their Mini Disc a few years ago - it never became a hit in the US for its compact size and recording capability which is a shame because it was a hit product in space-constrained Japan. Unfortunately, anything in the US becomes mass-adopted and becomes hard to replace for decades (eg: 5.25” floppy disc vs 3.5” floppy, cassette vs mini cassette, cassette vs CD, VHS vs DVD, CD vs MD, CRT vs LCD, 3:4 vs widescreen, etc)
