A bill to provide temporary immigration protections for Venezuelans is headed to the Senate just days after an earlier attempt at House passage failed to garner the necessary votes.

The Venezuela TPS Act (H.R. 549), which passed July 25 on a vote of 272 to 158 would grant temporary protected status to Venezuelans currently in the U.S. in the wake of a Trump administration refusal to do so. The House voted 268 to 154 in favor of the bill July 23, but the measure failed to garner the two-thirds super majority needed to pass under suspension of the rules.
