India’s Home Minister Amit Shah announced a proposal to revoke Article 370, which gives special constitutional status to Jammu and Kashmir, and reorganize the region into two Union Territories. Earlier on Monday, authorities placed some parts of the region under lockdown as speculation grew that an announcement was imminent. Local reports say mobile and internet services also went down while some regional leaders said they feared being arrested.
