That Crazy Viral Action Scene Is From a Great Tollywood Movie You Can Stream Right Now

If you’ve spent any time on post-feral hogs Twitter, chances are good that you’ve come across the incredible action scene that’s been making the rounds. If you haven’t seen it, it’s more than worth 57 seconds of your time.

The clip is from Baahubali 2: The Conclusion, the sequel to the highest-grossing Indian film of all time. It’s a Tollywood production — an industry that dominates the Telugu-language films in India. The film is part of a series, and this installment was directed by S. S. Rajamouli. As of 2015, it was the most expensive Tollywood movie ever made.

So, while you should definitely interested in seeing the entire six-hour epic, we’re really here to talk about this clip. A short version has garnered almost 760,000 views, while a longer clip is up to 1.8 million.

The conceit is pretty standard: an assault on a castle or fortress of some kind. That’s where the conventionality ends.

Six soldiers, clad in metal armor and holding large shields, stand on top of a palm tree that’s been tied to the ground. They clasp arms, the one in front gives a signal, and the wizened fighter at the rear swings his sword and cuts the rope.

The phalanx goes flying, forming a tight circle with their shields out in midair. They crash on top of the wall, doing a decent amount of damage on landing. The soldiers separate, bouncing nimbly on their shields, popping off ready to fight. It’s a truly impressive maneuver and a testament to the creativity of Rajamouli and his team. It also makes the final season of Game of Thrones —particularly the assault on King’s Landing — look even less inspired by comparison.

If you want to see the rest of the Baahubali duology — and we’re guessing you do — you can find subtitled versions of both on Netflix.
