IPL 2020: Capped and overseas players can be loaned during the tournament this season

The BCCI has sent out a circular to all the stakeholders of the IPL stating the major changes ahead of the upcoming IPL season.

The 13th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is set to get underway on March 29 and the preparations for the season have reached top gear. The BCCI has introduced a few changes to the IPL this year which also includes the third umpire calling the front and back foot no-balls. To convey more changes to the franchises, a circular has been sent to all the stakeholders and it has been understood that the capped and overseas players can be loaned during the tournament this season.

The concept was introduced last year its

The window for the same will be opened at 9 AM on the day following the 28th match of the season has been played or when all the teams have featured in 7 matches each.

“Only players who have played in less than two complete matches in the playing XI or as a concussion replacement during the season may be subject to a player loan. The loan window will start at 9 am on the day following the 28th match scheduled for the season or once all the teams have played 7 matches each, whichever is later,” a part of the circular which BCCI sent out to all franchises read according to Cricbuzz.

Prize money slashed

In another huge move, the BCCI has decided to reduce the prize money for the IPL. The board has proposed almost 50% reduction in the prize money and reportedly, the franchises are not at all pleased with it. According to the circular, the winner of the IPL 2020 will get Rs 10 crore unlike the last season when the Mumbai Indians (MI), who won the tournament, had received Rs 20 crores.

The subsequent prize money for the runners-up and the third and fourth-placed teams will also be decreased. Moreover, a couple of franchises have also confirmed that they would be debating the issue with the concerned authorities soon.

elf in the IPL but it was limited to only uncapped players. However, none of the teams showed much interest in it with not many options available for them to take its benefit. For the same reason, the restriction has been lifted it seems for the 2020 IPL edition and the overseas and capped players can also be loaned.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to implement strict cost cutting measures with the notable decision being the halving of IPL 2020 champions' prize money.

In a circular sent to all IPL franchises, the BCCI has notified that instead of a whopping Rs 20 crore paid earlier, the IPL champion will now receive Rs 10 crore only.

"The financial rewards have been reworked as a part of the cost cutting measures. The champions will get Rs 10 crore instead of Rs 20 crore. The runners-up will get Rs 6.25 crore from earlier Rs 12.5 crore," according to news agency PTI.

"The franchises are all in good health. They also have multiple ways like sponsorships to bolster their income. Hence the decision on prize money taken," a senior BCCI source told PTI.

Other cost cutting measures implemented by BCCI

A state association hosting IPL games will get Rs 1 crore each with franchises and BCCI contributing Rs 50 lakh each.

It has also been learnt that mid-level BCCI employees won't be allowed to avail business class on flights for travel to Asian countries (Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, UAE) where the flying time is less than 8 hours.

IPL and franchises brand valuation

According to Duff and Phelps annual IPL Brand Valuation report 2019, the overall brand value of the Indian Premier League has increased by 7 per cent (after considering currency fluctuations) from 6.3 billion dollars in 2018 to 6.8 billion dollars in 2019.

Mumbai Indians continued to top the charts for the fourth time with an 8.5 per cent increase in brand value at Rs 809 crore.

Kolkata Knight Riders and Royal Challengers Bangalore recorded an 8 per cent decrease in brand value to reach Rs 630 crore and Rs 595 crore, respectively.
