Immigrants who are allowed into the U.S. under special circumstances may be less likely to receive work permits under new Trump administration policy guidance issued Aug. 19.

The new guidance is necessary because of a “national emergency at the U.S. southern border where foreign nationals are entering the United States illegally,” acting U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services Director Ken Cuccinelli said in a statement. The guidance also is needed in light of a review of “adjudicatory practices over the past few years,” he said.
