Centre has no proposal to make Hyderabad a Union Territory: Union Minister Reddy

By ANI | General News | Last Updated at August 21 2019 20:20 IST

Union Minister of State for Home Affairs G Kishan Reddy on Wednesday said there was no plan of the Centre to make Hyderabad a Union Territory.

"Rumours are being spread via social media about Hyderabad becoming a Union Territory. We are also having television debates about the topic. The Central government has made no such proposal," Reddy told reporters.

The Union Minister also said the Centre had no objections if the Andhra Pradesh government shifted its capital from Amaravati.

Reddy said: "It is up to the state government to decide if it wants to retain Amravati as its capital or not. The Central government has no objections in this regard."

Andhra Pradesh Minister Botsa Satyanarayana on Tuesday stirred a controversy by stating that Amravati, which lied in a flood-prone area, was not a safe place for being the state capital city.

"Siva Rama Krishna Committee had pointed out that Amaravati is not a safe place for being the capital city. Public money was misused by the previous TDP government. Majority of places in Amaravati are in flood-prone areas," the minister said at a press conference.

After the controversial statements of Botsa Satyanarayana, once again discussions about capital has started surfacing. Leaving the half completed capital Amaravathi will be one of the most disasterous decisions YSRCP government would ever make. Botsa had stated floods to be threat to the Present Amaravathi capital. Which would make the cost of constructions doubled. To avoid this cost escalation, YSRCP government wants to go for a complete new capital.

But frankly, according to peoples question, leaving the half completed capital for a new one would escalate the costs even more. But the ruling CM and his government known for their adamant nature may not leave things easier. The plans for new capital have already started as per the sources. The rumour is Donakonda region of Prakasam District is under consideration for new capital.

As per the sources, YSRCP leaders have invested huge money in the lands around Donakonda region. It is also said, green signal has been given to start the works for Airport and Runway near Donakonda region. Also, industrial park has got a go ahead from the ruling YSRCP government. All this have added fuel to the burning doubts on capital change after Botsa Satyanarayana comments.

On the other hand, Donakonda is a highly drought hit region. Where it is harder to find water even at the ground level of around 400 Feets. If at all capital region. If alloted as capital how does a drought hit place like Donakonda can accommodate the population.
