Bandaru Dattatreya is appointed as the Governor of Himachal Pradesh by the Central Government on Sunday. "I would like to thank Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah for showing confidence in me and giving this responsibility. I will do my work as per the constitution," said 72-year-old Dattatreya to Media. He has replaced Kalraj Mishra, who has been now appointed as the Governor of Rajasthan. The appointments of both Dattatreya and Kalraj will be effective from the dates they assume charge of their respective offices.

 

Dattatreya has served as a Member of Parliament (MP) for five terms and also been associated with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) since 1965. He has joined BJP in 1980 and worked in different positions before being elected to the Lok Sabha in 1991 for the first time. And then he was again elected to the Lok Sabha in 1998 and 1999.  In 2013, he was appointed as the national Vice-President of BJP and in May 2014, he was elected to the Secunderabad Constituency seat and again grabbed it after BJP coming back to the power in May earlier this year.

 

Dattatreya is an accused in the death of Dalit research scholar Rohith Vemula. Rohit killed himself in University campus, Hyderabad in 2016, alleging caste discrimination. At that time, the Gachibowli police registered a case under Section 306 (Abetment to suicide) of the IPC and under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act against Dattatreya, UoH Vice Chancellor P Appa Rao Podile, and others.

Rohit Vemula in his suicide note blames communists 

but some how everyone apart from the people Vemula blamed get this added tag in their bio.
