Sandhi rules (like savarna deergha, yanaadesa, yanaagama, rugaagama) don't explain. They just classify  some segments of speech (or phenomena).  Lots of grammar rules are like that. When one is asked to explain "why pagalu + pagalu = pattapagulu"? One gets an answer: its Amreditha sandhi. This answer (amreditha) doesn't explain.

చేసినారు, చేసిన్రు, చేసిండ్రు

చేసిన్రు > చేసిండ్రు (stop epenthesis--addition of డ్). We see this phenomenon in every language: for instance, in English, Thomson > Thompson, Chomsky > Chompsy

చేసినారు vs. చేసిన్రు (elision = deletion). Actually > aksh'lly,  definitely > def'n'tly (elision of two i's).

Epenthesis = addition

elision = deletion

metathesis = transposing sounds (comfortable > comf'tur'ble -- transposition of r and t sounds)

Dissimilation = one of the two same sounds are deleted: enterprise > ente-prise, surprise > su-prise, etc.

Epenthesis, elision, metathesis, dissimilation, etc are just labels for various phenomena. When linguists try to explain these, they usually appeal to some kind of "articulatory ease".
