Like religion, language is an intimate component of one's identity. It is dangerous to play with it carelessly. As of now, the system of having some 22 odd languages as nationally recognised languages, including Hindi and English, works just fine. There is no point in disturbing that status quo.

I see It as the first step South India breaking away from India Union if they try to enforce it. At least 1960's Indian government paina dependency unde ippudu att care antaru as the 4 south states will contribute more than 40% of the India's GDP. 

 just FYI,one of the main reasons for East and West Pakistan split was urdu imposition on Bengali population and similarly  Srilankan civil war as well (when fight was put on to to replace English with Sinhala and Tamil as the official language, but eventually replaced with Sinhala only and this seen as a deliberate attempt to snub the Sri Lankan Tamils and then the rest happened)
