At one time Rajasthani was widely spoken across Rajasthan.

At one time Telugu was widely spoken across Hyderabad.

 

Some one must do a study of linguistic % of local languages being spoken in these 2 places.

It tells a damning pattern of how demand side of language always triumphs.

 

Unless local languages offer economic & social incentives, it will be difficult for them to thrive. They will survive but will never thrive.

Worse, languages that offer economic and social mobility will relegate local languages to movies and TV's.

 

Many of anchors and DJ's can barely speak in Telugu & that's a fact.

In fact try making a movie just using Telugu words - except for period movies, most Telugu movies have so much English + Hindi.

 

Now contrast that with Japanese & Korean movies and TV shows. You will hardly find English in these cultures.
